What is a MLAK?
The Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) is a key available to certain members of the public, in particular those with disabilities, to gain nationwide access to otherwise restricted government and council facilities. These include:
- 24-hour access to Accessible Public Toilets
- Elevators at railway stations
- Liberty Swings in playgrounds designed for children in wheelchairs
Who is eligible for a MLAK?
Any member of the public or their carer are eligible to purchase a MLAK Master Key. Written authority is required from either a doctor, disability organisation, community health centre or the owner of a building who has MLAK locks fitted to accessible toilets.

What are Liberty Swings?
The Liberty Swing is an Australian Invention allows children in wheelchairs the opportunity to experience the joy of having a swing in the park. It is the only swing of its type that is fully lockable and allows a maximum swing height – that is, really swinging, not just rocking back and forth.
Liberty Swings have aligned their security system to accept MLAK Master Keys. This ensures swing security when not in use. The key is used to access the safety belt compartment, the gate and also to release the ramp on the Liberty Swing. Schools and families caring for a disabled child are encouraged to obtain their own MLAK key to use at their leisure at any public Liberty Swing location.
